Czech Folk Dance Workshop

Venue: Danish House, 6 Rockridge Ave, Penrose (access from O’Rorke Rd, which runs off Station Rd)

Guest Tutor -Živana Vajsarová, visiting New Zealand from Czech Republic, teaching Czech, Moravian, Slovakian & Historical Dances

With Dance Couple – Jitka & Krystof from the Performance Group “Jaro” demonstrating and Tomas – Pianist

Živana is widely respected throughout Europe for her work in dance education and has taught in Canada, Germany, France, USA, Hong Kong & Japan. Her performance group Jaro have taken part in folk dance festivals all around the world. ‘Jaro’ has won awards in folk dance and choreography. On this first visit to New Zealand Zivana is accompanied by other eminent members of the group: Dr Libuse Svabova, Deputy Director of the Duncan Conservatory, and Lucie Vavrova, Deputy Mayor of Prague 5. Registration 9.00 am. Workshop 9.30 - 3.45 pm (lunch break 12.15 - 1pm)

Day Workshop Fee: $30 (includes lunch) - concessions apply, half-day and child rates available. See Auckland Czech workshop registration form for full details! Some experience required - if you're new to dance, it's recommended you have a few basic classes before attending the workshop.

Winter Warm-up 2008

The evening will follow the highly successful format of previous winter warm-ups - great performances in colourful costume and lots of participation dancing. Come and go as you like - watch and/or dance. All welcome.

Click here for the programme of local ethnic dance groups, non-stop throughout the evening to watch and dance with.  The Czech visitors will be guest artists. (All welcome)

Come at 6pm. Dancing will start at 6.30pm. Food and drink will be available at a reasonable cost.
